  • "Yanggwaja Hoegwan" Dessert Cafe, Jeju Island, South Korea (Jeju Local cafe)
    Travel and local food 2023. 5. 19. 15:20

This post is about Yanggwaja Hoegwan Cafe located in Noksan-ro, Pyoseon-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju Island, known for its cherry blossoms and rape blossoms(yellow flowers in spring).

"Yanggwaja Hoegwan(양과자회관)" can translate to "a place that sells Western-style pastries" or "a shop specializing in Western pastries" in English.

I visited Noksan-ro in early April to see the cherry blossoms, and I happened to take a break at this place because I was attracted to the simple cafe scenery. Today, I visit again.

The second floor seems to be the living space of the owner, who operates the cafe, and the first floor seems to be used as a cafe. The simple design, green grass, and garden floor stones blend harmoniously to provide a comfortable atmosphere.

The wooden chairs, pots, and simple wooden sign at the entrance seem to represent the owner's neat personality.

The effort put into the interior of the cafe is also evident. The square windows, round tables and chairs, and ceiling sculptures combine straight lines and curves to decorate the interior.

When you sit down, there is a folding door on the side, and if you slightly open it and go out, there are parasols and outdoor tables.

The green buckwheat field outside the outdoor tables makes for a pleasant sight.

The cloudy sky that was there a moment ago is starting to clear up. It's only been about 30 minutes, but the sky has completely changed. Living in Jeju, I feel that Jeju's weather is really hard to predict. Even within Jeju, the weather can be different, so even if it rains in the east, it's a fascinating place where you can see the sun in the west.

Now let's take a look at the menu. I'll order the Cream Cafe Latte and Vanilla Bean Latte that I couldn't try last time. You can order easily the menu to use the below photo and explanation.

Coffee cannot be without desserts. I order the Plain Financier and Peanut Financier(European Dessert).

In addition to Financier, there are various desserts available, such as Pecan Scone and Basque Cheesecake.

The ordered drinks and desserts have arrived. Cafe Cream Latte can be thought of as a latte-based Einspanner. The coffee is delicious, and also Yanggwaja Hoegwan's Financier is exceptional. The chewy texture and moderate sweetness of Financier go well with coffee as a dessert.

And since peanuts are famous in Jeju, I must try the Peanut Financier.

I take a photo of the coffee along with the outdoor terrace scenery.

This is the restroom taken when there was no one. I didn't know I could see a Japanese garden made of wood, stones, and sand here.

Jeju Island is scattered with various and delicious cafes. There are cafes with beautiful scenery near the beach, and there are many places like Yanggwaja Hoegwan that you have to come into the rural village to visit.

Traveling while visiting each place one by one, feeling the harmony between human-made buildings and nature, and enjoying a cup of coffee, isn't that one of the reasons for traveling?

Please note that Yanggwaja Hoegwan is also a cafe where you can get a 10% discount with the "Tamnaneunjeon" coupon, and it is closed on every Tuesday and Wednesday.

This was my personal review of a Jeju cafe that I paid for with my own money.
